The Child Tax Credit is a child benefit available in the UK for lower income households. Child Tax Credit and other child allowances are paid by the Child Benefit Agency.

Do You Qualify For The Child Tax Credit?

In our world today, raising children is sometimes hard, particularly when money is scarce. Kids are constantly needing one thing or another, whether it be materials for a school project or new clothes. Managing to find enough money can be impossible at times. However, there are government benefits available for low-income households that can help alleviate the anxiety in tight money situations.

One such government benefit is the Child Tax Credit, which was intended and created to give relief to  parents and carers of college students and school age children to make sure that children can get everything they need. This has proved to be extremely advantageous to low income families  who have children below the age of 16 or a young person that is still in full-time education.

The Child Tax Credit is based upon the amount of children in your household and also takes into account the total household earnings. In addition to receiving an overall tax credit for the family, you also can claim a specific amount ofchild benefit for each child who is living in your care. It isn't necessary to be related to the child or children, although you must be the primary carer and the children must be living full time under your roof.

Claiming the Child Tax Credit is really quite simple. When you first apply, you're going to have to get a claim pack. Additionally, you'll have to give proof of your identity, which can simply be done by providing your national insurance number. Once you're approved, your Child Tax Credit can be renewed by telephone or by mail. This needs to be done on a yearly basis and you'll be notified when it is time for you to renew.  It's essential that you report any modifications to your circumstances including even the slightest changes in income and household size. Should you forget to report any change, you might have to pay back the tax credits that you've received.

You can receive Child Tax Credits in various ways. You can either receive the child allowance monthly or weekly, and it can be transferred into any account you specify. Children's Tax Credits has to be transferred to the main caretaker's bank account and can be received by cheque, sent to the address that is indicated on your application. This child benefit may be claimed additionally with the Working Tax Credit, which is a government benefit if either you or your partner are employed.

In the event you aren't approved these benefit entitlements, or do not agree with the calculation of your tax credit, you may appeal a tax credit decision. However, keep in mind that this must be done within 30 days of the notification of denial.
